Define national standards for hazard tree felling work.

We lead the industry in the development of national standards for fallers working on wildland fire incidents. Our collaboration with federal and state agencies since 2000 has improved the professionalism, performance and safety of commercial fallers in the field.  They have become a proven and appreciated resource for fire and emergency managers. Recruit  and train the most experienced, skilled commercial timber fallers available for the specialized environment of wildland fire and emergency incidents.

All Fallers: must have minimum of five years, verified commercial timber falling experience. (Most fallers have more than 20 years each in the timber falling industry.)

Advanced Fallers: In addition to the five year minimum falling experience above, these fallers also have a minimum of three years wildland firefighting experience, with at least six wildfire assignments and a minimum of falling 30 damaged trees.

NWTF was the first in the industry to verify its fallers’ background and qualifications, training and carding. We lead the field in developing training programs which broaden fallers’ knowledge and skills in a variety of areas relevant to wildland firefighting and the logging industry, such as faller-specific first aid, helicopter longline extraction and Stokes Litter patient packaging. Streamline the resource ordering process for rapid deployment and minimum paperwork and tracking for the requesting organization.

Our fallers are dispatched in “modules” consisting of two professional fallers, their equipment, vehicle, insurance and a guarantee by NWTF that they have completed all training and certification requirements. The module concept comes with one order number and one set of paperwork – a concept designed to minimize the ordering organization’s tracking and accounting.
