Hazard Tree or Snag Removal, Road Snagging
All NWTF fallers are trained and experienced in falling trees that are hazardous or dangerous to the public or firefighting resources. Fallers are also available to complete hazard tree identification and assessment to determine the need for removal.

Thinning
Fallers follow a prescribed thinning plan to improve the health of a forest plot.

General Directional Falling
Commercial fallers are experienced in cutting timber to fall in a specific direction.  Directional falling is mandatory for fallers in the commercial industry for two reasons:
1. to preserve valuable timber (i.e. to prevent timber from being damaged by splintering and breakage) and 2. to facilitate yarding operations.

Hazardous Fuels Reduction
Reducing fuel build-up in the urban/rural interface.

Firewood Creation
National and local forests offer permits for firewood to the public.  NWTF fallers selectively fall trees to be used for firewood. This reduces the risk of an accident when a tree is fell by an inexperienced person or someone inadvertently enters the area of a falling tree.
